Blue India Underwater Art Competition is an initiative of ReefWatch Marine Conservation that combines ocean awareness and creativity.
It aims to bring together a community of artists who are ocean lovers and vice versa, sharing their passion on one platform – Blue India.
This is a multidisciplinary contest is the first of its kind in India, that invites photographers, filmmakers, painters, sculptors, writers and present their work artists to and exchange experiences from across the country.
India has a coastline of 7500 km where maritime culture is flourishing, however, traditionally we are intimidated by the ocean and rarely ventured into the deep waters. The competition aspires to raise consciousness amongst the people towards greater care and protection of our oceans and encourage ocean sports such as diving, surfing and sailing to a larger audience.
The main focus of this competition is documentation of the ocean environment of India.
Blue India’s mission is for the underwater photographers and videographers to become the voice for our marine environment in the similar way that wildlife photographers have become for our terrestrial forests.
In addition to creating a community of ocean lovers, the objective of Blue India is to create a ‘documentation bank’, which can help ReefWatch communicate marine conservation efforts better as well as obtaining records of animal sightings in various parts of the ocean.
ReefWatch is an NGO dedicated to marine conservation. Its vision is to protect the ocean and the life within it, through education,
research and management, so that our children and theirs will continue to have access to this source of richness and beauty that sustains us today.
We hope that a growing body of creative output from Indian ocean lovers will inspire more people from our countries to explore and protect the oceans
Chameleon Art Projects is an initiative to support and encourage artistic practices through curated exhibitions, residencies, artist management
