| We,
at RWMC (Reef Watch Marine Conservation) believe
that a country surrounded by 75% coastline, should
be more pro active about protecting the Oceans .
Let’s start with the island city of Mumbai
and set by example, a campaign that could change
the future of our country’s food reserves
|

The Oceans
are home to 97% of all living matter and yet they
are used as mere dumping grounds in India ..Over
5000 tonnes of untreated garbage is released into
the sea daily in Mumbai alone! This not only damages
the marine environment but poisonous materials enter
into the food chain, some of which is consumed by
us daily!!
But, like you, we at RWMC treasure the oceans and
all the life that they hold and organizing this
clean up will give us the opportunity to give something
back to the sea that makes this city and every coastal
area so special…
We invite you to join RWMC and thousands of volunteers
– including schools and community groups,
the NCC, families, celebrities, water sports clubs,
environmental groups, and concerned individuals
for this One Day Event. The Ocean cleanup day is
an annual opportunity to effect change. To clean
up the debris that threatens clean water and wildlife,
and to educate people about the behaviours that
cause it. Through advertising of the event by way
of hoardings, banners ,flags, t shirts, caps and
fliers ,we hope to garner a lot of publicity and
awareness.
What you have to do? Simply step out on 2nd October
to a designated beach close to you and pick up the
litter and debris you see lying around.. Disposal
Bins will be placed at strategic points for easy
access to all. This is just a small gesture in a
larger picture.. We hope to inspire people to make
a difference on that day and all year round by ONE
simple action.. Ocean pollution and debris are an
all pervasive problem that threatens the ocean’s
health. Yet all marine debris can be traced back
to a single source – people. Few people are
aware how much land – based trash never makes
it to landfills and dump yards and is carried by
wind and water from far inland, sadly ,ending up
in the sea …. Perhaps you haven’t thought
about it, but all oceans are interconnected and
are ONE…. |

“ONE
DAY BY THE SEASHORE CAN INSPIRE YOU TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE
ALL YEAR”
Regardless of where we live, we all depend on the
oceans, for food, recreation, transportation, and
even for much of the oxygen we breathe. And we all
have a responsibility to care for our oceans and
the life they hold. Participating in the Ocean Day
Campaign is a positive, pro-active way to show that
you value clean and healthy oceans. You’ll
be amazed at what you can accomplish in one day.
You’ll be surprised at what you learn about
yourself, your neighbors, and your environment.
WILL YOU BE ONE OF THEM TO STEP
OUT AND SHOW YOU CARE?
